Cruelty to lambs

Hugh Richards is a former president of the National Farmers' Union of Wales. He was awarded an OBE in 1999 for his services to agriculture. A pillar of the community then?

No, a convicted criminal - as shown in The Telegraph, he was found guilty of 12 offences relating to transporting lambs to market.

The problem is, this isn't an isolated exception - in any mass industry that exploits animals cruelty and oversight are inevitable.

"To my mind, the life of a lamb is no less precious than that of a human being. I should be unwilling to take the life of a lamb for the sake of the human body. I hold that, the more helpless a creature, the more entitled it is to protection by man from the cruelty of man."
Mahatma Gandhi, 'An Autobiography, the Story of My Experiments'
